Kick-off meeting of “AedesRisk” project in Greece

Under the framework of the project ECDC/2016/034 “Development of a tool to support the decision-making process for surveillance and vector control of dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus infection in Europe (acronym: AedesRisk)”, Dr Olivier Briet from European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and Dr David Roiz from Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), visited Greece from 2nd to 4th July. In collaboration with Dr Antonios Michaelakis from Benaki Phytopathological Institute (and coordinator of LIFE CONOPS project), the consortium will start a pilot project that aims to calibrate a mathematical model of the spatio-temporal distribution of Aedes albopictus. The Moschato-Tavros Municipality, with established experience in mosquito surveillance, was chosen as a study area and host the first day of the meeting.

The model will serve to inform successful integrated management strategies for Aedes albopictus in Greece and other EU countries.
