The National Centre for Scientific Research “DEMOKRITOS” was founded in the late 1950s and is the largest Research Center in Greece operating under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Education. Today, the scientific activities of the Centre take place in five administratively independent Institutes covering a wide range of topics in Energy & Environment, Nanotechnology and Materials Science, Biosciences, Informatics & Microelectronics and Nuclear Science & Technology.
The Environmental Research Laboratory (EREL) is part of the Institute of Nuclear and Radiological Sciences & Technology, Energy & Safety. The main R&D activities of EREL relate to:
- Atmospheric Research: Air Quality Modeling; Meteorological Modeling; Climate Modeling; Emission Inventories; Indoor Pollution; Air Pollution Measurements and Analyses
- Hydrogen Research: Safety and Storage
- Porous Materials Characterization & Applications
