We are entering the seasonal period of maximum Asian Tiger mosquito density and the entomologists are busy with new technology development to control them.
The Greek and Italian members of the LIFE CONOPS project “Development and demonstration of management plans against – the climate change enhanced – invasive mosquitoes in Southern Europe” (LIFE CONOPS-LIFE12 ENV/GR/000466) are working to test the larvicidal and repellent effect of a new extract of a typical Mediterranean plant showing highly active against mosquitoes. Laboratory tests have been conducted by Benaki Phytopathological Institute (BPI, Greece) while field tests are in progress by Centro Agricoltura Ambiente “G. Nicoli” (CAA, Italy), Agricultural University of Athens (AUA, Greece) and BPI in Bologna.
