“Door-to-door” in the Municipality of Palaio Faliro

Benaki Phytopathological Institute in collaboration with the Municipality of Palaio Faliro, for the first time in Greece, implemented the “door-to-door” strategy for raising awareness among citizens on sustainable mosquito management.

The study examines the relationship between mosquito breeding sources and socioeconomic or demographic characteristics of different households in a Greek municipality and evaluates efficacy of resident education.

The findings strongly suggest that only the presence of scientific staff inspecting possible habitats in their properties, could be enough to stimulate practices towards source reduction.

The results of the study were presented in the broadcast “ECONEWS” of SKAI Channel, a broadcast which focuses on environmental issues where the Dr Antonios Michaelakis, Researcher in the Benaki Phytopathological Institute and Mrs Vicky Andrikopoulou, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Palaio Faliro spoke during the broadcasting. The results of the study were published in the scientific journal PLOS ONE. You can read the publication here.
