3rd Stakeholder Workshop:
“Mosquito management and public health: The impact of climate change”
in the framework of the EC Funded Project:
LIFE CONOPS (LIFE12 ENV/GR/000466)
“Development and demonstration of management plans against – the climate change enhanced – invasive mosquitoes in Southern Europe”
The Project LIFE CONOPS (LIFE12 ENV/GR/000466) organised its 3rd Stakeholder Workshop on the topic “Mosquito management and public health: The impact of climate change”, on December 10th, 2015, at the premises of the Agriculture University of Athens.
The workshop represented a great opportunity for presenting the management plans for managing Invasive Mosquito Species, developed in the framework of LIFE CONOPS project.
Experts from Greece and Italy were invited to the workshop to present issues related to the management of mosquitoes. According to the agenda, the workshop included a morning session presenting the progress of LIFE CONOPS activities and interesting lectures about biocides and mosquito born diseases. The afternoon session included three working groups.
Specifically, the Working Groups were organised as follows:
- Management plans in Greece for Dengue and Chikungunya (prevention and control)
- Public tender scheme for Mosquito control companies
- Mosquito management/control measures
The workshop was co-organised by the Agricultural University of Athens, the Benaki Phytopathological Institute, the University of Thessaly and the Hellenic Centre for Disease Control & Prevention, under the auspices of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and the Greek Ministry of Health.
LIFE CONOPS aimed to draw up integrated management plans for the effective and environmentally-friendly control of invasive mosquito species.
